In order to deal with the scalability needs of today's advanced web applications, Cloud Computing works by "virtualizing" the web server. A large cluster of computing and storage hardware is housed within a data center, and bound under the control of a grid infrastructure. Using virtual 'models' of physical web servers and database servers, the Cloud can create virtual instances of web servers and scale their 'slice' of the grid according to it's individual needs. Instead of leasing or purchasing the use of individual hardware components, this permits client websites and databases to scale to various service levels based on traffic loads on the site and individualized requirements at any time. The Cloud infrastructure includes deployment using Microsoft ASP.Net and PHP 5 languages; a clustered MySQL 5 Database, and Aphex Technologies's robust email campaign system.

To provide corporate email and groupware capabilities to the whole organization, it is recommended that a system such as Microsoft Exchange - or equivalent - be used. These services are costly to implement and manage in house, so it is advised that a Hosted Exchange service be used. This outsourced solution allows the IT administrator to concentrate on managing user accounts without the added hassle and expense of the back-end system administration, security, backup and updating of a full-featured groupware solution.
